We can control guns and protect them
"Guns don't kill, people do." A favorite lament of The National Rifle Association. And it's true.
It's also true that most people who kill other people do it with guns.
Of course, people use many other ways to commit murder, but a gun is the weapon of choice and is so much easier. Hardly a day goes by that we don't hear of an innocent child shot down by an errant bullet intended for someone else.
I am a holder of a FOID card and believe in the right to own guns. I also believe in the right to own and drive a car. I believe both should be highly regulated.
When it comes to murder, the United States leads all other civilized nations by astronomic proportions. It's time to stop it. The National Rifle Association could be the leader in this effort without taking away the rights of law abiding citizens.
I won't hold my breath, though.
