Elgin man charged in November Internet-related stabbing
An Elgin man has been charged with robbing and stabbing another man in November, who had been lured to a parking lot to see a person he had met through an online dating service.
Andrew Chapman, 27, of the 1100 block of Spruce Lane, has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and theft from a person, according to a news release from Elgin police.
He was arrested Friday, and was expected to appear in Kane County Circuit Court bond call Saturday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 19, a man was stabbed in the chest in the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive. The 37-year-old-man was treated at Presence St. Joseph Hospital.
Police believe several offenders were involved.
At the time of the stabbing, police said they believed it may be related to two other robberies, in which the victims had made arrangements online to meet someone to sell items. Those victims had used an app called OfferUp.
