6 years for Aurora rapist after seventh failure to register

An Aurora rapist has been sentenced to six years in prison for failing - for a seventh time - to notify authorities of a new address.

Danny L. Bergloff, 47, of the 100 block of Galena Boulevard, had been charged with violating the state's sex offender registration law, according to state officials and court records. Bergloff pleaded guilty late last month to the felony charge, which carried a penalty of up to seven years in prison. Judge Susan Clancey Boles also imposed on Bergloff $850 in fines and court costs, records show.

Bergloff was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to a June 1994 rape of a woman at his Montgomery apartment. But after his release, he was sentenced to further prison time for failing to check in after changing addresses in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2012, records show.

Bergloff is required to register as a sex offender with local authorities within three days after moving.

Most recently, police said Bergloff failed to report his new address and was arrested on Oct. 31, after police received a tip that he recently moved from the 200 block of East New York Street in Aurora.

In 2006, Bergloff was sentenced to six years in prison for failing to report a change of address to Aurora police, records show.

He told authorities he had moved to the Hesed House homeless shelter in Aurora on Oct. 25, 2006, according to court records. Police went to the shelter on Nov. 13, 2006, to verify he was there, but he wasn't, according to Kane County court records.

Under state law, Bergloff can have his most recent sentence cut in half for good behavior. He also gets 19 days credit toward for time served at the Kane County jail before he pleaded guilty.
