Wheaton College needs lesson on tolerance

The recent hubbub over an instructor in Wheaton College showing empathy with the Muslims by wearing a head scarf is understandable because this is a Christian school, however the reasons given show a lack of understanding of religion.

Jews, Christians, and Muslims all believe that there is only one God, therefore, it must be the SAME God, no matter what they call Him. The real differences in these religions is the Prophets and Scriptures that they believe in. This is further modified by the rules imposed by the current leaders in the various sects.

For example, less than 100 years ago, when a female entered ANY church, they would cover their heads. I remember women resorting to using hankies when no other cover was available. Back in the early Christian times, all women wore head scarfs.

Try to find a picture or statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary without a headscarf! The Quran doesn't require it, it merely says dress modestly.

Only in recent times have all Muslims forced their women to wear head scarfs to make a political statement.

To summarize, making a statement about being tolerant of other religions in a religious school should be acceptable, but wearing symbols of a different religion may be a little over the top. Even Pope Francis is friendly to other religions, but he doesn't adopt their practices.
