Tickets on sale for Elgin Master Chorale's opening concert Nov. 15

The Elgin Master Chorale will open its 2015-16 season, "Music Forgotten and Remembered" in November.

The first concert, "Sacred Secrets," featuring Gioachino Rossini's "Petite Messe Solennelle," will be performed at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Elgin Community College's Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive.

Literally translated, "A Little Solemn Mass," the fact this mass is neither solemn nor particularly brief is just the type of mischievous wit the 19th-century Italian composer loved. From its hushed, magical beginning to its hugely dramatic ending, this piece sparkles like fine champagne. Listen as the Elgin Master Chorale pairs dramatic music with lilting melodies and glittering vocal lines. It is dynamic proof of what made Rossini a master of Italian opera - at once playful and sincere, and all the while breathtakingly beautiful. Tickets are $25 or $20 for students and seniors. For tickets, call (847) 622-0300 or visit tickets.elgin.edu.
