Dist. 62 Foundation reports at school board meeting
Des Plaines Elementary School District 62 Foundation officers Susie Adams and Julie Luck Jensen reviewed the grants that were funded during the 2013-2014 school year and presented the goals for the 2014-2015 school year at a recent school board meeting.
Last year, 29 grants totaling $19,069 were distributed to teachers. In addition to the mini-grants, the District 62 Foundation funded the return of anti-bullying speaker John Halligan in January 2014. He presented Ryan's Story assemblies to all middle school students.
On Feb. 21, the District 62 Foundation hosted a benefit dinner at Café la Cave that was attended by more than 250 people. The headliner was the D62s, a band of 12 District 62 employees. More than $21,000 was raised for mini-grants and other programs.
An annual retreat, facilitated by Luck Jensen, resulted in these goals:
• Support District 62 initiatives by providing grants to D62 teachers and students; funding speakers and assemblies; and creating an efficient and effective board of trustees.
• Develop a community relations/communications plan by creating connections with local businesses and community leaders and organizations; working with staff and parent groups; and connecting with alumnae, students, parents, and residents.
