Bartlett drops Jacobs, Lincoln-Way Central

Jim Wolfsmith had every reason to smile.

The Bartlett softball coach watched with great delight as his Hawks scored 19 runs on 25 hits in posting a 12-2 win over Jacobs and a 7-5 victory over Lincoln-way Central at the Jacobs triangular tournament Saturday in Algonquin.

"We really swung the bats well and had a lot of timely hits," said Wolfsmith. "It was a good day for us."

In the Game 1 win over the host Golden Eagles, Bartlett (5-2-1) utilized the windy conditions to blast 4 home runs and garner 7 extra-base hits while collecting 13 hits overall.

Taylor Rotundo hammered a pinch-hit 3-run homer, Lauren Janczak blasted a 2-run round-tripper while Alyssa Nowak and Sarah Schmitz collected solo homers.

Schmitz added 3 hits with a solo homer and 3 runs scored. Leadoff hitter Katie Fornoff reached base three times with 2 RBI, a triple and 2 runs scored.

"We were seeing the ball well and were aggressive at the plate," said Wolfsmith. "We were able to get some balls up in the wind and get the ball out of the park."

Kirby tossed the first 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 with 1 walk. Pagan worked the final 3 innings and blanked the Golden Eagles (0-4) on 3 hits.

Jacobs, which left 9 runners on base, collected 8 hits, 2 each by Taylor Belo (RBI), Teaghan Richman (RBI) and Taylor Gagliano.

"Bartlett is a very good team and they really challenged us," said Jacobs coach Katie O' Brien, whose team fell to Lincoln-Way Central 15-4 in its second game. "We are still working through things with our lineup."

In Game 2 against Lincoln-way Central, the Hawks erased a 3-1 Knight lead with 4 runs in the third to take a 5-3 advantage.

"I had a good level swing and was hitting line drives," said Fornoff. "We are really connecting as a team and having fun."

Elyse Hickey and Quagliano added 2 hits each for the winners.

"This was a good win for us against a very good team," said Wolfsmith. "We had some big two-out hits and we did a great job of moving runners into scoring position. Danielle pitched well against a very good hitting team."
