Elgin's season ends in loss to Madison
The Elgin American Legion Post 57 baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 4-2 loss to Madison, Wis., in the Great Lakes Regional in downstate Alton.
Elgin, the Illinois state champion, finished 2-2 in the regional tournament and finished its season with a 36-3-1 record.
In Saturday's loss, each team scored in the first and fourth innings before Madison scored 2 unearned runs in the top of the eighth to seal the win.
Elgin's first inning run came via a Kyle Hays RBI single that scored Dane Toppel, who had walked. Post 57 scored its other run in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk to Dan Lenz that scored Brayden Royse, who had also walked.
Elgin had just 3 hits in the game.
Max Keough suffered the loss on the mound for Post 57 despite allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out five and walked three in going the complete game.
