Girls basketball: Fremd gets 16th straight in MSL West

Fremd's girls basketball team extended the current longest winning streak in the Mid-Suburban League to 16 in a row with a 54-14 win over Schaumburg on Friday night.
The Vikings, who haven't lost since a 43-42 decision to Palatine in their seventh game of the 2017-18 season, were led by seniors Kendall Maloney and Olivia Hill, who each scored 10 points. Classmate Caroline Cochran added 8 while Emily Klaczek and Ella Burns each had 6.
Fremd raised its record to 8-2 and 3-0 in the West while Schaumburg stands at 5-7 and 2-1.
Elk Grove 49, Wheeling 46: Julia Masnica and Megan Murray each scored 12 points for visiting Elk Grove (6-5, 1-2) in the MSL East game. Kaitlyn Ingebrigsten and Alyssa Trausch added 8 apiece while Hannah Gryzik had 7.
Sophia Stanke led Wheeling (2-11, 0-3) with 13 points while Chloe Drozdz and Naomi Mettelus each added 9.
Maine West 51, Deerfield 28: Angela Dugalic (26 points, 18 rebounds), Dylan Van Fleet (16 points, 7 steals, 5 assists) and Brianna Hernandez (5 points) held lead visiting Maine West (11-1, 5-0) to the CSL North win.
Conant 54, Streamwood 33: Conant started play in the Libertyville Christmas tournament as junior Isabella Tierney led the Cougars (3-7) with 17 points, followed by Chikere Oduocha (10) and Rachel Kutella (9).
Hoffman Estates 42, Belvidere 26: Hoffman Estates (2-12) notched its first win at the Northern Holiday Classic as Ashley Oliver led the way with 10 points.
Christian Liberty 47, Woodlands Academy 28: Audrey Law (19 points) and Julia Wolke (13) led visiting CLA in Thursday's nonconference game.
