Oakton Women's Soccer Advances to Semifinals of NJCAA Tournament
The Oakton Community College women's soccer team (12-1-1) treated itself to a spot in the National Junior College Association (NJCAA) Region IV Tournament Quarterfinals by defeating Elgin Community College 1-0 in the semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 31. Oakton will next host Waubonsee Community College (7-8-3) at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Freshman forward Cynthia Salgado scored the game-winner on an assist from sophomore center Judith Flores in the first half to account for the lone scoring against Elgin. The goal was Salgado's 12th of the season, which leads Oakton. Meanwhile, Flores notched her 10th assist of the year for Oakton and tops her squad with 30 points. Oakton dominated action on the field tallying 26 shots on goal. The Oakton defense made it easy on its sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Godoy as she was 1-for-1 in save chances. In more than 771 minutes played on the season, Godoy has made 32 saves. Her 0.47 goals-against average ranks 11th in NJCAA Division II.
Since Sept. 18, Oakton has amassed an 11-match unbeaten streak. During that span, the squad has amazingly outscored opponent 51-4, while recording seven shutouts. Oakton's only loss of the season came on Sept. 9, when Moraine Valley Community College eked out a 1-0 road victory.
