Full speed ahead for 10-0 Antioch

As fast as Antioch point guard Ashley Reiser was splashing shots from beyond the arc, Wauconda's basketball team was playing with equal pace.

Then Antioch floored it.

"They are very talented," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said after the visiting Sequoits routed her Bulldogs 74-46 Tuesday night. "They got a lot of horses in that barn, and we can't keep up with that for a whole game.

"They're beating everybody by 30 points," Dennis added. "They're probably the best team we will see all season."

Antioch's furious start to the season didn't hit a speed bump in its North Suburban Prairie showdown against fellow unbeaten Wauconda. The Sequoits' 28-point win hiked their record to 10-0 and 4-0 in the division.

Wauconda fell to 5-1 and 1-1 in the NSC Prairie.

"They know how to win," Antioch coach Tim Borries said of the Bulldogs. "I was curious to see how they play."

The play of Reiser led the way again for Antioch. She finished with a game-high 24 points, making five 3-pointers for the second game in a row.

"Coach gave us a little pep talk before the game (about playing to your potential), and that always helps," Reiser said. "I was in the zone, I guess."

So, too, was Erika Gallimore. The veteran junior guard scored 13 of her career-high 15 points in the first half.

"I was just running the court," said Gallimore, who was 7-of-11 shooting. "I just kept running the court, and Ashley kept passing me the ball."

Reiser shot 9 of 14 from the floor, while also dishing out 6 assists and grabbing 5 rebounds. Her trio of 3-pointers on as many shots in the opening quarter helped Antioch build a 22-12 lead. The 5-foot-4 junior then crashed the boards and scored on a putback.

"You can have any point guard in the state, and I'll take her," Borries said. "There are some colleges that are missing the boat on her."

Wauconda has a good point guard of its own, and senior Corrina Vaughan helped the Bulldogs hang with Antioch early. Vaughan scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the opening quarter, which ended with the Sequoits leading 24-18.

"That's definitely the most points we've scored in the first quarter," Dennis said. "We hung with them, punch for punch. We've talked all season about not stepping back and taking it to teams."

Wauconda executed its game plan for a quarter, even getting Amy Reiser (5 points, 7 rebounds) to pick up 3 fouls. But despite Ashley's twin sitting the entire second quarter, Antioch didn't slow down. Ashley Reiser hit two more 3-pointers, and Gallimore drained one as well, as the Sequoits went into halftime up 42-27.

Ashley Reiser scored three straight baskets during a third-quarter stretch to take a 52-32 advantage to 26 points, then sat out the fourth.

Alexis Duehr added 8 points (two 3-pointers) and 7 rebounds for Antioch. The Sequoits sank nine 3-pointers and had 10 players score.

Antioch held Wauconda center Katie Rossetti (10 rebounds) to 5 points, sending help every time she touched the ball in the post. Mallory Carver came off the bench to score all 9 of the Bulldogs' points in the fourth quarter.

"We were a little nervous going into the game," Ashley Reiser said. "We knew they were going to be good. They're always pretty aggressive when they play us. So we knew we had to bring it."
