Parney, Mundelein blank Grayslake Central
Mundelein 10, Grayslake Central 0 (5 inn.): Nicole Parney enjoyed a successful season in the circle for Mundelein's softball team last year.
The junior right-hander opened the 2015 season Tuesday by firing a five-inning no-hitter, as host Mundelein defeated Grayslake Central 10-0.
It was the first varsity no-hitter for Parney, who struck out six and walked a pair.
"Their pitcher kept us off-balance real good," Rams coach Jason Schaal said. "The ball was moving for her. You're not going to win many games if you don't put the ball in play."
Junior Karlee Busscher led Mundelein's 11-hit attack with a home run and triple. Junior Amanda Diaz also homered, while senior Maria DeVito had a double. The Mustangs got 2 hits apiece from Busscher (3 RBI), DeVito and senior Maggie Mahar (2 RBI).
Prairie Ridge 7, Antioch 6: The Sequoits dropped their season opener, despite Jessica Tyrell's home run, triple and 4 RBI. Freshman Jill Everett was 3-for-3 with a triple for the Sequoits.
