The Warriors (26-8) broke out to an 8-1 lead after two innings and rolled to the Class 4A Plainfield Central regional championship, the program's first since 2005. Ben Vietri went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. Tyler Hasper and Garret Howicz drove in 3 runs while Luke Marzano went 2-for-5 with 3 runs scored. Jack Eddy was the winning pitcher, scattering 6 hits, striking out four and walking two. The second-seeded Warriors face No. 3 Downers Grove South in Wednesday's Oswego sectional semifinals.
Montini 3, Glenbard South 1:
The Broncos (22-9) broke a 1-1 tie by scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the Class 3A Montini regional title. It's the program's first regional championship since 2010. Complete-game winning pitcher Sean Frontzak allowed 4 hits while striking out six and walking none. Brandon Shilgalis doubled twice and Eddie Bava drove in 2 runs. Dominic Fazzari was the losing pitcher for Glenbard South (20-14) despite allowing no earned runs. Third-seeded Montini plays No. 6 Riverside-Brookfield in Thursday's Glenbard South sectional semifinals.
Fenwick 8, Benet 4:
The Redwings (23-11) fell in the Class 3A Fenwick regional final when the host Friars broke a 4-4 tie by scoring 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Anthony Rendina, Jon Kruppe and Mike Ryan had 2 hits apiece. Pat Peterson took the loss for Benet.
Plainfield North 8, Hinsdale Central 6:
The top-seeded Tigers advanced to the Class 4A Oswego sectional semifinals to face No. 11 Neuqua Valley on Wednesday. Hinsdale Central ends the season at 19-17.
