Put two people in locomotive cabs
The quick and easy solution to just about all Amtrak and in fact most passenger train accidents, including Metra, is to have a second person in the cab of the locomotive.
This should be the conductor. This could be put into effect tomorrow or at the least next week.
Two qualified people should be in the cab of every moving passenger train. The railroad industry years ago pushed to do away with the fireman, and now we have one person in the cab.
Amtrak and the commuter railroads can hire ticket takers to collect fares but the responsible person, conductor, should be in the cab with the engineer.
