One arrested after Elgin stickup, police say
An Elgin man was arrested Friday following an attempted robbery in the city a few days earlier, police said.
Raymond H. Bonner Jr., 26, of the 500 block of Wellington Avenue, is charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.
The stickup occurred about 3 p.m. Jan. 26 at a home on the 600 block of Cookane Avenue, police said. Bonner knocked on the door and then demanded money from a resident while armed with a handgun, police said.
The victim immediately closed the door and called police, according to a news release.
Bonner was arrested in a car Friday night. He had a handgun and ammunition with him, police said.
Bonner remains in the Kane County jail on a $250,000 bond.
