Ege in fine form for BC; Kaneland wins at CL Central

The rest of the hurdlers never had a chance against Burlington Central junior standout Lucas Ege in Friday's 41st Annual Crystal Lake Central Invitational at Metcalfe Field.

Ege won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.28 and claimed top honors in the 300 hurdles in 39.4.

"This was good competition tonight and I will get better as the competition gets better," said Ege. "I still have a lot of work to do before the sectionals."

Ege was one of the main reasons the Rockets finished second with a score of 91 points.

Kaneland, which won its second straight title, overpowered the field with 160.5 points.

Joining Ege in the winners circle for Burlington Central were Diontae Smith (triple jump, 42-8) and Matt O. Connor (800, 1:56.35).

The Rockets also won the 1600 relay in 3:26.92.

Kaneland, which won the 400,800 and 3200 relays, got first place efforts from Dylan Kuipers (pole vault, 14-6), and Ben Barnes (long jump, 21-8).

"It was a total team effort," said Kaneland coach Eric Baron. "Everybody contributed. We really ran well in the relays. We are still toying, experimenting with the lineup. We still have a lot of work to do."

Vernon Hills was fourth with 68½ points. The Cougars got first-place finishes from Noah Agnew (high jump, 6-3.1), Kyle Whitney (3200, 9:39.12) and Ben Mohrdieck (1600, 4:23,10).

Dundee-Crown, which dominated the sprints, was a solid fifth with 53½ points.

Malik Dunner sprinted past the field to take top honors in the 100 in 11.39.

"I really had to battle through the wind," said the Chargers junior. "It was hard to run. I can't wait for the weather to get warm - then I can really get going."

Dunner's teammate Austin White was the champion in the 200 in 22.73.

Antioch was seventh with a total of 47 points. Dan Lonski was the Sequoits' top finisher, placing second in the 100 in 11.59.

South Elgin placed eighth with 44 points.

The Storm got second-place efforts from John Danner (800, 1:57.55) and Derek Kumerow (high jump, 6-3).

Round Lake was 11th with a score of 24 points. Mateusz Lopez was the runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 41-7½.

Jeremy Strutzel got Carmel Catholic's only point with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump.
