Stone, Grant handle Rockton
Andrew Stone worked 5 innings for his first win of the season, and Grant's baseball team defeated Rockton Hononegah 4-1 Wednesday for its third win in as many games this week.
Stone struck out three, and Tino Torres tossed the final 2 innings for the save.
Grant (3-0) was led offensively by Ryan Noda (1-for-3, RBI), Simeon Lucas (1-for-2, double, walk, 2 RBI), Will Zitkus (1-for-3, walk) and Nick Heidenthal (1-for-2).
Carmel 8, Huntley 2: Quinten Sefcik struck out eight batters over 5 innings, as the Corsairs won their home opener to improve to 6-2-1.
Stevenson 6, Palatine 3: Sean Wilson was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Michael Banakis had a single and 2 RBI for the Patriots in the nonconference game.
Conrad Tyrell threw 2 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts to earn the save for Stevenson (2-1). LJ Austin allowed 3 runs (1 earned) over 5 innings to pick up the win. Austin struck out four and walked three.
McHenry 10, Antioch 6: Christian Norris went 3-for-3 for the Sequoits in their nonconference loss, and Nick Muskat ripped a double.
Bob Hamilton had 3 RBI for Antioch.
Barrington 13, Vernon Hills 4: A day after an offensive outbreak, the Cougars had the tables turned on them.
Barrington came out swinging, making use of 5 hits and taking advantage of 3 Cougar miscues to plate 7 runs in the first.
Pat Crowley (2-for-3, double, RBI), John Goehrke (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Joey Marras (2-for-3, double) had 2 hits apiece in the losing effort. Jake Boyer played a solid game at shortstop with 4 assists and 3 putouts.
