Burlington Central's Schutta throws perfect game
Burlington Central senior Jacob Schutta was perfect on Monday.
As in perfect game.
Schutta struck out 13 of Harvard's 21 batters, didn't walk anyone and his team played errorless defense behind him as the Rockets won the Big Northern East game 9-0.
Cody Schuver led the offense for Burlington Central (8-4, 3-1) with a home run, a double and 5 RBI.
Dundee-Crown 8, South Elgin 3: The Chargers (7-7, 3-2) hit 5 doubles and scored 4 times in the bottom of the sixth to win in nonconference play at home. Tyler Lewan (2B, 2 RBI) and Chase Bloch (2 2Bs, 2 RBI) powered the offense while Riley Alvarado (5⅓ IP, 2 ER, 4 H), earned the win. For the Storm (5-4, 3-2) Dane Toppel (3-for-4, 2B, RBI) had the best night at plate with Tyler Brown (5 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 5 H) suffering the loss.
Marengo 5, Larkin 4: After tying it in the top of the seventh and scoring in the eighth, the Royals (5-8) could not hold on, surrendering 2 runs in a nonconference loss on the road. Brayden Royse had a pair of hits, including a double, to go along with 2 RBI. Jon Lenz took the loss in relief, pitching 4⅓ innings, giving up just 2 runs on 4 hits.
Geneva 5, Bartlett 3: Taking a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth, the Hawks (4-6, 3-4) gave up 3 runs in the inning, taking a loss in the Upstate Eight Conference on the road. Robbie Euliano (3-for-3, 2B, RBI) paced the offense from the bottom of the order. Pitcher Joey Roberson (5⅓ IP, 3 H, 2 ER) pitched well enough to win but could not overcome 2 unearned runs.
Richmond-Burton 4, Jacobs 1: The Golden Eagles' (12-5) offense just could not get it going, banging out 6 hits but scoring just once in a nonconference loss at home. Ben Murray's solo homer in the bottom of the sixth was the lone run for Jacobs. Ryan George and Tyler Jones combined to give up 8 hits, 4 runs and struck out 7, with George starting and taking the loss.
Westminster Christian 8, Ottawa Marquette 5: A 5-run fourth proved to be enough for the Warriors (4-12, 2-3) as they picked up their second Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Adam Greene had a pair of singles and 3 RBI, with Andrew Ryan (4⅓ IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER) earning the win.
St. Edward 7, Aurora Central 5: Using a 5-run bottom of the fifth, the Green Wave (3-10-1, 2-3) held off a late rally to win in Suburban Christian Conference play. Joe Martell and Jack Tierney led the offense with 2 RBI each. Tierney also earned the win, throwing 6 innings and putting up fives in the hits, runs, walks and strikeouts column. Jake Lefrenz picked up the save.
