Kernels shut out Kane County Cougars to end home win streak

The Kane County Cougars' offense only mustered up 5 singles on Saturday as they were shutout by the Cedar Rapids Kernels 2-0. The loss put an end to the Cougars' 14-home-game winning streak.

Brad Keller (4-8) allowed the Kernels to score 2 runs in the second inning on Brian Navaretto's 2-run single. Keller finished with five innings of just 2-run baseball but suffered his team-leading eighth loss of the season, despite 6 strikeouts.

Myles Smith, Jency Solis and Luis Ramirez all had scoreless appearances out of the bullpen, including an inning-ending play at the plate on a strong throw from Colin Bray to throw out Navaretto trying to score from second.

The Cougars had chances in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings, but stranded a total of 6 runners on the bases, 4 of them in scoring position.

The Cougars and Kernels continue this series at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
