Hidden Gems garden walk in Libertyville

Town and Country Garden Club of Libertyville presents Hidden Gems Garden Walk Saturday, June 27, featuring six unique gardens in the community.

The walk, set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held rain or shine.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the walk. Tickets are available at the June 25 Libertyville farmers market, next to Cook Park in downtown Libertyville, as well as at How Impressive! and Eclectic Design Source, both on Milwaukee Avenue in downtown Libertyville.

Homes on the walk vary in size and theme but each is special in its own way.

There are gardeners that specialize in organic gardening, native plantings, formal and informal gardens, as well as meditative paths. One home is the last parcel developed from the Quaker Oats experimental farm dating back to the 1940s. They continue to honor the farm's traditions, including saving the only remaining chicken coop.

"This garden walk provides those with smaller lots to vast properties with inspiration and knowledge to enhance their own gardens. There's something for everyone," said Joyce Geib, past president of the Town and Country Garden Club.

Proceeds from this fundraiser are used to support the beautification of Libertyville with plantings of local public areas such as Cook Mansion, David Adler Arts and Music Center, Libertyville Civic Center, Metra train station, Winchester House and the Blue Star Memorial.

The club has also procured a garden plot in the community gardens to supply fresh produce to the local food pantry. For details, contact Joyce at (847) 362-8357 or Lmoosegeib@comcast.net.
