Tour of Flint Creek Savanna Sept. 7
September is a perfect time to visit a prairie.
With it's cooler weather, you can see prairie plants such as copper grasses, compass plants in bloom, gigantic prairie dock leaves, dropseed smelling like butter, blue gentians peaking out from the protection of the tall grasses, even a monarch or swallowtail flitting around the milkweed plants, leading the way down the trail.
Citizens for Conservation continues its series of Interactive Self-Guided Trail Walks from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at its Flint Creek Savanna, 459 W. Route 22, Barrington.
A CFC guide will greet and help visitors with cellphone apps to use to view videos. Six plaques along the trail have QR codes linking to the related videos. Maps and lemonade will be provided.
