Columnist's history a little fuzzy

In her July 28 column, Georgie Anne Geyer ought to get her history straight. She states that General George C. Marshall was "Ike's trusted aide during World War II." In fact, Gen. Marshall was General Eisenhower's superior during that time inasmuch as Marshall was the chief of staff of the Army and coordinated all phases of the war effort in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

Marshall was a giant as a soldier and as a civilian. As secretary of state under President Truman, he crafted the Marshall Plan, which facilitated rebuilding Western Europe after World War II.

Even in opinion columns, accuracy in historical recall is necessary.
