MSL crossover wins for Conant, Fremd, Hersey
Mike Downing scored a team-best 16 points to help visiting Conant past Wheeling 60-51 on Tuesday in Mid-Suburban League divisional crossover boys basketball play.
Ryan Davis had 12 points and Chima Oduocha 11 as the Cougars (7-1) outscored the Wildcats in every quarter but the fourth. The Mid-Suburban West co-leaders shot 11-for-15 at the free throw line.
T.J. Best of Wheeling led all scorers with 17 points, which inlcluded five 3s. Nick Janulis (14) and Patrick Szpir (12) also scored in double figures for the Wildcats (3-6).
Fremd 63, Buffalo Grove 50: Patrick Benka and Kyle Sliwa both came up with 19-point efforts to help MSL West co-leader Fremd (9-1 overall) pick up a divisional crossover victory.
Benka and Sliwa both made a pair of 3s, and Sliwa converted 11 of 13 fouls shots.
Buffalo Grove trailed 16-15 after one quarter, but Fremd gained the advantage by outscoring the Bison 18-7 in the second quarter.
BG closed the gap in the third quarter with a 16-11 scoring edge.
Sophomore guard Jack Vaselaney paced the Bison (3-5) with 17 points, including three 3s, and Collin Dekorsi scored 10 with a pair of 3s.
Hersey 65, Hoffman Estates 61 (OT): The host Huskies improved to 5-4 as Joe Coffaro (23 points), Michael Lelito (17) and Mark Milligan (16) accounted for the bulk of the scoring in an MSL crossover.
Coffaro and Lelito both drained four 3-pointer and Milligan had a pair.
Brandon Hall paced Hoffman Estates (3-6) with 20 points and Jorden Thornton finished with 19.
Luther North 71, Christian Liberty 53: Mark Cabrera (15 points) and Jordan Pratscher (12) scored in double figures, but there was no catching Luther North after a 24-point first quarter and a 29-point second quarter in Northeastern Athletic Conference play.
