Backpack donations to benefit families, kids in need

The Arlington Heights Park District is collecting new or gently used backpacks, duffel bags and small suitcases for children and families in need.

The district's employee-driven volunteer group, ENVIROGROUP, is leading the effort. Donations can be dropped off from now until Oct. 23 at park district facilities including the administration center, Camelot Park Community Center, Forest View Racquet and Fitness Club, Frontier Park Community Center, Heritage Tennis Club, Olympic Indoor Swim Center, Pioneer Park Community Center, Recreation Park Community Center and Senior Center.

Officials have a goal of donating 500 bags to two charities, Children's Home and Aid, and Journeys: The Road Home.
