Marian Central Catholic cancels Friday classes as lightning strike repairs continue

Classes will be canceled again Friday at Marian Central Catholic High School while crews continue inspecting and repairing the damage caused by a lightning strike.

The Woodstock school at 1001 McHenry Ave. sustained "extensive damage" to the roof and chimney, among other parts of the building, when the lightning hit about 4:30 p.m. Monday, officials said. Everyone was able to safely evacuate, and the school has since remained closed.

In an update sent to parents Thursday afternoon, administrators said they are "still engaged in the process of discovery and repair," prompting them to cancel Friday classes.

The Friday evening football game will take place as scheduled, though player access to the locker room is only available through the parking lot on the west end of the building. The main entrance and common area are closed until further notice.

A freshman volleyball tournament scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
