Barrington to spend $8 million on infrastructure

Two aging pieces of Barrington's infrastructure will be replaced next year after trustees voted this week to issue $8 million in bonds.

Scheduled to be replaced are the 80-year-old sanitary sewer main line south of the Metra station near East Russell Street and South Summit Street; and the 40-year-old water main near Hart Road, said Village Treasurer Jason Hayden.

Village President Karen Darch said both projects need to be done.

"They're very old infrastructure that needs to be replaced," Darch said Tuesday, adding it is important to act now, as, "we anticipate the interest rates will raise in September."

Hayden added the rate of inflation for construction projects is increasing as well.

Hayden said engineering plans for both projects will be done this year and construction will begin in 2016.
