Officials: Joe Caputo & Sons opening by July 4 in Elk Grove Village
The new Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market in Elk Grove Village is expected to open July 4 or earlier, officials said this week.
The store's opening date has been pushed back several times since the franchise announced in January 2014 it had acquired four former Dominick's locations in the suburbs.
The delays, owner Nat Caputo told Mayor Craig Johnson, were due to problems with the old Dominick's cooling system. Store officials thought they would be able to salvage the old system, but later found that they couldn't.
They're now waiting for a new system to be delivered — a process that takes up to 10 weeks. Then it must be installed, which will take another four weeks, Johnson said, after meeting with Caputo this week.
The 72,000-square-foot store at 980 Elk Grove Town Center will include a food cafe, and upgraded deli, dairy and frozen food sections.
