Wheeling man sentenced for possessing stolen vehicle
A Wheeling man who authorities say failed to return a car to a Waukegan dealership after a test drive pleaded guilty on Thursday to possession of a stolen motor vehicle, court records show.
Martin Heydenburg, 52, was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay $689 in fines. He received credit for 57 days in custody.
Heydenburg told employees at Sortos Auto Sales in Waukegan on April 2 that he was taking the car for a test drive, prosecutors said. He never returned, and employees reported the car stolen.
Wheeling police spotted the car the next day at Wolf Road and Strong Avenue. They ran a computer check, which indicated the car had been stolen, prosecutors said.
Heydenburg, who has convictions for retail theft and residential burglary, must serve at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
