Model train display draws crowds again at Sun City

Every type of building, from treehouses to outhouses, is represented in the holiday model train layout presented by the Kishwaukee Valley & Eakin Creek Model Railroad Club in the Prairie Lodge of Sun City Huntley.

"I don't even know how many we have," says club member Alan Schrader, who said the club receives more donated buildings every year. "We can't take any more buildings because we don't have any more room."

But the children who came to see the free, four-level layout on Sunday seemed to look past the buildings and follow the Thomas the Train models around the track.

"They know more about Thomas than we do," Schrader said. "If we don't put the cars in the right order, they'll tell us."

Ten model trains in four different sizes, including N, HO, O, and G gauges have been rolling around the tracks simultaneously since Thanksgiving. The display is open to the public 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends, through Dec. 27, in the Prairie Lodge Social Lounge, 12880 Del Webb Blvd., Huntley.
