Pet Supplies Plus opens in Glen Ellyn

Glen Ellyn animal lovers have a new shop in town to help meet their pets' needs.

Pet Supplies Plus will hold a soft opening on Saturday at its new location at 299 Roosevelt Road, and an official grand opening a week later on Feb. 14.

The pet store will offer a wide variety of goods for the furry friends in your life, and sell tiny animals like fish and gerbils.

The new building sits on the former site of Control'd Engineering. The pet supply business moved just a few blocks down from its previous location in Wheaton.

"The (Wheaton) building was getting kind of old, and we just wanted to give our customers a nice shopping environment," co-owner Virginia Puroll said.

Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mike Formento said the new spot is an asset to the business community on Roosevelt Road.

"Every new business benefits Glen Ellyn in one way or another," Formento said. "And certainly being a brand new facility and a large facility, they will bring not only their business that they had in Wheaton but ... those customers would all be coming to Glen Ellyn so we'll see some increased sales tax."

At the Feb. 14 grand opening, the store will offer 30 percent off its entire stock, as well as services such as free dog washes, free pet nail clippings and cat and dog adoptions.
