US official's visit to Detroit school canceled for storm
DETROIT (AP) - A snowstorm has forced cancellation of a federal nutrition official's planned visit to Detroit's Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men to see some of its fresh foods initiatives in action and eat a meal.
Kevin Concannon of the U.S. Department of Agriculture was scheduled to visit the school Monday, but a Detroit Public Schools spokeswoman announced Sunday that the visit was off after the district called off classes for the day.
Concannon is undersecretary for food, nutrition and consumer services. He was scheduled to participate in a hands-on gardening demonstration and to eat lunch with students.
The school has a Farm to School initiative.
