Mariano's coming to Naperville
Mariano's Fresh Market finally has found its way to Naperville.
A company spokesman confirmed via email that the upscale grocer's parent company, Roundy's Supermarkets Inc., has signed a lease with Bradford Real Estate Companies for a space in the city's Fox Run Square shopping center.
The store will move into the former Dominick's location at 1212 S. Naper Blvd., just north of 75th Street. It has been vacant since Dominick's closed late last year.
James Hyland, Roundy's vice president of investor relations, corporate communications and public affairs, said Mariano's is still "moving through the municipal approval process." He didn't provide any further comment.
City Manager Doug Krieger said the city still has two other former Dominick's locations standing empty. In choosing the store at Naper Boulevard and 75th Street, he said Mariano's conducted a "strategic and quiet relocation."
Mayor George Pradel called the development "wonderful" for the city.
"We have a building out there that's not being used ... and it'll fulfill some of the needs of that area," he said.
According to the store's website, the first Mariano's opened in Arlington Heights in July 2010. Since then, the company has opened 15 additional locations in the suburbs. There are also plans to open several more soon, including in Westchester and Oak Lawn.
