Duckworth's office to hold meeting on Congressional Art Competition

U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth's office will host an information session Thursday night about the 34th annual Congressional Art Competition.

Teachers, high school students and parents are invited to the meeting, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the foyer conference room of Elk Grove High School, 500 W. Elk Grove Boulevard.

The Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition every spring. Winners from across the country get to have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol, officials said.

The winner from the 8th Congressional District will receive two round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C. to take part in a national reception.

Marco Gomez, of Hoffman Estates High School, won the competition in 2014 and Alyssa Froehling, of Palatine High School, won the competition in 2013.
