VA should partner with private physicians

The excessive wait times at VA hospitals can easily be solved. At this time patients at VA hospitals have log waits because the system is overwhelmed. This has been a long-standing problem at VA hospitals.

The easy solution is to give every veteran a Medicare-type card so that he or she can see a doctor in private practice. The wait times to see a private physician is almost always less than 14 days. Special cases can be dealt with by the VA hospitals, but ordinary cases ranging from heart problems to those of a psychiatric nature can easily be accommodated in the private sector.
