Hoffman Estates park renaming to honor Fabbrini
As part of the yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Hoffman Estates Park District will officially rename High Point Park as Joseph L. Fabbrini Park at a public dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9.
The late park district pioneer is credited with making recreational programs and facilities accessible to all children in the community.
Fabbrini was a founding commissioner of the Hoffman Estates Park District and served as its first director through 1967. He established the "Tot Lot" summer playground program and helped create the park district's cooperative agreement with Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54.
The renaming ceremony will take place at the park at 1704 Glenlake Road.
"This renaming honors Joseph L. Fabbrini and his efforts to establish the Hoffman Estates Park District," current board President Mike Bickham said. "His dedication and volunteer work as its first director exemplified a commitment to the community and residents."
Hoffman Estates Park District Executive Director Dean Bostrom agreed with that assessment of Fabbrini's contribution.
"He believed, as we do today, that it was the obligation of the park district to reach all residents and encouraged programming for adults, children and for the whole family," Bostrom said.
