Batavia Triathlon helps kids get their feet wet this June

The Batavia Park District will sponsor two upcoming events, the Batavia Triathlon's Youth Splash and Dash and Kid's Dash Sunday, June 11.

The Splash and Dash is a fun youth event that combines running and swimming. The run will be on the Fox River Trail in downtown Batavia. The swim will take place at Harold Hall Quarry Beach, 400 S. River St. The event will start after the adult triathlon and duathlon athletes have completed the bike portion of the race and cleared out of the transition area. The transition area reopens at 8 a.m. for the Splash and Dash, and the race begins at approximately 8:30 a.m. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and there are event distance options for ages 7-15. Event fee $20.

"The focus is on participation rather than competition," stated Race Director, Coach Joe LoPresto. "It's an excellent way to expose and educate youth to the multisport lifestyle, all while being involved in a fun, exciting and safe atmosphere."

The Kid's Dash offers an opportunity for children ages three to eight, to run in a noncompetitive event. All registered kids get a finisher's medal and cookie. The Kid's Dash will take place at 9:30 a.m. and will be at the Batavia Tri/Du finish line area at the Batavia VFW, 645 S River St. Event fee is $5.

The Batavia Triathlon is made possible by over 150 volunteers on the day of the race. Volunteers may help with activities such as pre-race activities, staffing water/aid station, setup for post-race festivities and much more! If you are interested in volunteering your time, please visit the Batavia Triathlon's website volunteer page.
