YourGOV app to help with public works issues in Glen Ellyn
Glen Ellyn residents will be able to use a new app next year to submit repair requests for things ranging from potholes to leaky hydrants to failed streetlights.
The village hopes to roll out the new application, dubbed YourGOV, to residents at the beginning of next year.
The app, which is offered through Cartegraph, will be used to report service requests to the village's public works department.
But officials said incidents that are more urgent should be reported to the police.
Residents will be able to use the app on their phones and laptops, and using the app is pretty simple.
To place a service request, residents just need to put in the location (which can be often done automatically through a GPS signal), select a type of service request and add details or a photo.
After that, you just have to hit submit.
The only ways to currently submit service requests to the public works department is by calling the department, coming in in person or by emailing the department's director.
"So it's an advantage to both the resident and to the department because it streamlines the request process," Assistant Public Works Director Dave Buckley said.
With the app, community members will be able to see what types of requests their neighbors have reported in Glen Ellyn as well.
Those who submit requests will get an email when work has been completed.
