Longtime Daily Herald print center in Schaumburg to undergo $11M expansion after sale

Schaumburg trustees this week approved a project seeking an $11 million reinvestment in the longtime Daily Herald print center purchased last spring by a Chicago Tribune affiliate - where both newspapers and others will continue to be printed and shipped out. The approved plans for the 21-acre site along the Elgin-O'Hare Tollway at 1000 Albion Ave., include adding 50 employees, expanding the parking lot, and construction of an 83,125-square-foot building that could be leased by one or more industrial users.

Scaled-back housing development proposed for Huntley's Regency Square

A proposal to develop a new residential area at Huntley's Regency Square calls for building 186 townhouses and 40 ranch-style duplex homes at the southwest corner of Princeton Drive and Charles H. Sass Parkway, formerly Kreutzer Drive. Larger residential proposals previously have been considered for the site.

Batavia school board approves TIF agreement for new Aurora casino

The Batavia Unit District 101 school board Tuesday approved an intergovernmental agreement to create a tax increment financing district for a new Aurora casino. Plans are to build a new casino and hotel on Farnsworth Avenue near Bilter Road on land that is not being used. Hollywood Casino Aurora's parent company, Penn Entertainment Inc., intends to develop the new land-based casino and hotel adjacent to the Chicago Premium Outlets mall, near Exit 119 off Interstate 88, according to the casino website.

Autoworkers reach a deal with Ford, a breakthrough toward ending strikes

The United Auto Workers union Wednesday reached a tentative contract agreement with Ford that could be a breakthrough toward ending the nearly 6-week-old strikes against Detroit automakers. The four-year deal, which has to be approved by 57,000 union members at the company, could bring a close to the union's series of strikes at targeted factories run by Ford, General Motors and Jeep maker Stellantis.

RaceTime brings virtual reality games and escape rooms to McHenry

Jim and Jen Rice spent about three months investigating, finding a location in McHenry, and building the racing rigs for their business, RaceTime VR Racing and Escape Rooms at 810 Front St. in McHenry, which opened Labor Day. They have 10 racing rigs and can have up to seven different races at one time.

New gas station and Which Wich sandwich shop coming to Huntley

Huntley village officials approved a new development, which includes construction of a gas station, a Which Wich sandwich shop and a stand-alone car wash, on the north side of town at the intersection of Route 47 and Noah Avenue.
