Heart ailment fundraiser Sunday in Palatine

A fundraiser to raise money for scholarships and to foster heart tests for student athletes, conducted in honor of a student athlete who died of an undetected heart ailment, is being held Sunday at Birchwood Park in Palatine.

Hoofin' 4 Hardy, sponsored by nonprofit Joshua Jared Hardy Charities, is a 5K run/2 mile walk at 9 a.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m. Fee is $30, and includes a T-shirt and food. Joshua, a Fremd graduate, was a distance runner at University of Illinois when he died in April 2009, according to his mother Ruth Jensen.

The park is at 435 W. Illinois Ave. The event is in its sixth year. More information is at www.hoofin4hardy.org.
