Parking demands limit development
As a transportation planner, I have had many conversations with developers that want to invest in our communities. But strict parking requirements keep the projects from happening. The developers know they don't need as much parking as our cities demand they build. This additional unused cost gets passed on in the form of higher rents or goods.
Research has also shown that the less parking provided, the less cars are owned by residents. And why would we want more people driving? Do we want to encourage more congestion on our roads? More pollution and more fatal car crashes?
Let's allow more housing and businesses to grow without requiring a car to be part of the equation.
