History will judge Putin’s enablers

In 1940, isolationist members of Congress were campaigning against providing the British with the weapons they needed to defend against Nazi Germany.

It has now been revealed that some of these congressmen were actually being paid in cash by the German Embassy. This disgraceful episode is documented in Rachel Maddow's new book, “Prequel.” Fortunately for our country and the world, the isolationists were unsuccessful in 1940.

Are Speaker of the House Johnson and other Republicans accepting bribes from Russia?

One hopes not. Yet, they are acting exactly as Putin would expect if he had bribed them. They have cut off U.S. military assistance to Ukraine. The Ukrainians are running out of munitions. Every day, Ukrainian cities are bombarded by Russian missiles. Soon they will have nothing to shoot them down with. Some military experts say that without U.S. assistance, Ukraine can hold out for only six more months.

And the Republicans of today are doing what Putin wants, for free. History will judge them, too.
