Learn how women can survive and thrive in STEM at March 11 event at College of DuPage

Disney engineering services manager Angel Price and astrophysicist Emma Louden will discuss their careers, the barriers they have encountered and how they talk to the public about science as part of “Women in STEM Thrive” on Monday, March 11, at the College of DuPage.

Ana Belaval, an Emmy Award-winning reporter at Chicago’s WGN-TV, moderates this conversation, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Student Resource Center (SRC) Room 2000 on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. An audience Q&A will follow.

The event is free and open to the public but registration is required. On-site registration will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Price has nearly two decades of amusement park work experience with Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts. She holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Central Florida. She has supported the construction Animal Kingdom’s “Pandora — the World of Avatar” and “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.” She recently received the Walt Disney Legacy Award, which celebrates outstanding members of the Disney Cast who excel in upholding Walt Disney’s legacy of “Dream, Create and Inspire.”

Louden is an astrophysicist and consultant on space policy and industry trends. She is passionate about future-focused strategies for astrophysics, fascinating the public with the wonders of space exploration and applying evidence-based solutions to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

When not working on her Ph.D. at Yale University, Louden focuses on her STEM workforce project and encouraging the next generation of astronomers through the Summer Science Program, which seeks to inspire tomorrow’s innovators to work together to advance knowledge and solve the world’s most complex problems.
