Gift-in-a Jar Program: Teens in seventh through 12th grade can get ready for the holidays by preparing three or four gifts in a jar, when Fremont's Impressive Teens meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today. The library will provide the glass jars and the ingredients to be assembled for cookies, popcorn toppings, and more. Register, online, in person at the library's Youth Services desk, or by phone at (847) 918-3218.

After attending two F.I.T. meetings, teens become eligible to earn service hours by volunteering at the library.

Book discussions: The following upcoming book discussions have been scheduled:

• "Triangle" by Katharine Weber, will be discussed at 10:30 a.m. today at the Mundelein Senior Center, 1200 Regent Drive, Mundelein. The book tells the story of Esther Gottesfeld who survived the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which killed 146 workers, most of them women, and galvanized efforts to reform working conditions in sweatshops. Copies of the book are available at the library.

• The BookMarkers book club will discuss "The Accidental Tourist" by Anne Tyler at 7 p.m. Jan. 22. This monthly book discussion is held the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December). Copies of the book will be available about a month before the discussion date.

• The Senior Connections book meets the second Friday of each month and is held at the Mundelein Senior Center, 1200 Regent Dr., Mundelein. Copies of the books are available at the library a month before the discussion date.

Cat Catalani sing-along: Fremont Public Library's December Sunday concert will feature Cat Catalani at 2 p.m. Sunday. To register, go to www.fremontlibrary.org and click on "Calendar," visit the Youth Services desk, or call (847) 918-3218. This is a family concert open to all ages. Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Catalani is a singer, songwriter, and three-time "Road Scholar" who was selected by the Illinois Humanities Council to tour the state with her concerts. In addition to coffeehouses, clubs, and festivals, Catalani has performed at school assemblies, workshops, libraries and park districts. She plays about 200 concerts a year, and her wide-ranging musical offerings include original children's songs, Gershwin standards, and hits from musicals.

Toys for Tots: Fremont Public Library in Mundelein is a drop-off site for the Toys for Tots Program. Unwrapped new toys may be dropped off at the library during regular business hours until Dec. 21.

Since 1991, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve has been collecting and distributing toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.

The collection box at the library is located just inside the front doors. Library hours are: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For information, call the library.

Holiday hours: The library will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31 and Jan. l.

Computer Tutoring: Free one-on-one computer tutoring will be available from 4 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday in December except Dec. 25. To schedule a 30-minute appointment, call the reference desk, 847-918-3206.

Susan Salidor in Concert: Beginning, Dec. 26, patrons may register online, in person, or by phone for the Fremont Public Library Sunday Concert Series featuring Susan Salidor at 2 p.m. Jan. 20. Online registration is available on the library's Web site. For more information, or to register by phone, call (847) 918-3218.

This family program is open to all ages; children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Susan Salidor is an award-winning children's music composer, singer, and teacher. Her recordings have won the Parents' Choice Award, the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award, a NAPPA Award, and an iParenting Media Award.

Writing Group: The library's writing group meets the last Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. This is an informal setting where writers discuss their craft. Drops in are welcome.

In the display cases: The "A Night before Christmas" display, featuring dolls and figurines from the Lake County Doll Collectors, will be featured in the first floor display cases through the month of December.
