Let your hair down and go see Rapunzel

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair."

Children the world over have heard those words associated with the Brothers Grimm fairy tale for nearly 200 years.

They'll get the chance to hear the words performed live when students at Glenbard South High School present the children's play at 4:40 p.m. today and Friday in the school's auditorium, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn.

The story centers on a girl locked away in a tower without a door and an enchantress who has enshrined her there. Each day the enchantress visits the girl by standing beneath a window, saying the magic words, then climbing up her hair when it's dropped.

Only after a prince notices the girl in the tower and climbs to her rescue -- and marries her -- is she ever released from her loneliness.

The enchantress, however, discovers what's happened and makes life difficult for the couple, casting the girl into the forest and blinding the prince.

Is it a story with a happy ending? You'll have to attend the show to find out.
