Sandberg returning to manage Peoria

Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg will return to manage the Peoria Chiefs in 2008.

Sandberg managed the Chiefs to a 71-68 record in 2007, his first as a manager at any level. The Chiefs rallied late in the season to finish the second half 40-30.

Sandberg was a hit throughout the 14-city Midwest League in 2007 drawing huge crowds. O'Brien Field set a franchise attendance record with 259,784 fans in 68 dates.

"It's a great league and I really enjoyed it," said Sandberg. "We made a lot of friends in Peoria and look forward to another summer."
