Geneva, St. Charles burglaries might be linked, police say
For the second time this fall, the Coach store at Geneva Commons shopping center has been burglarized.
And Geneva police think the burglary might be linked to the burglary that same morning of a Cingular Wireless store in St. Charles, because they found two boxes containing AT&T headsets on the ground in the parking lot outside the Coach store.
The thief or thieves smashed a glass door to get in around 5:20 a.m. Friday.
They took 25 to 35 purses and other leather goods from shelves and display tables, Geneva police report. A store manager will check the inventory and supply a detailed list of missing items to police.
The Cingular store at 2700 E. Main St. was burglarized at 4:20 a.m. by someone who smashed a window to get in. Headsets were taken.
A press release from St. Charles police did not say how many headsets were taken, or their value. No description of suspects was given.
Geneva police, however, referring to the St. Charles case, reported a surveillance video showed two men breaking into the Cingular store. One was wearing a camouflage jacket, black pants and white shoes. The other was wearing a white jacket with red polka dots and black pants. Geneva police say the video shows the men filling a garbage can with merchandise.
On Oct. 17 about 40 items, valued at $11,284, were taken at 4:45 a.m. from the Coach store. The burglar or burglars threw a boulder through the front window to enter.
