Wade's 48 not enough for Heat; Nets win

Stan Van Gundy had seen this all before from Dwyane Wade.

Jumpers that swish with the game on the line. Forcing turnovers. Setting up teammates for big shots.

Van Gundy enjoyed it when he coached Wade and the Miami Heat. He even enjoyed it again Friday night, albeit from the Orlando Magic's end of the court.

Dwight Howard had 29 points and 20 rebounds, Hedo Turkoglu capped his 22-point night by hitting a huge 3-pointer with 11 seconds left and the Magic survived some late-game Miami heroics to beat the Heat 121-114 on Friday night in Miami -- giving Van Gundy a victory in his return to South Florida.

"I am just happy to walk out of here with a win," said Van Gundy, Pat Riley's former protege who resigned as Heat coach in December 2005 and hadn't been back for a game before Friday night.

Wade matched a career high with 48 points, 20 of them coming in the fourth quarter and all of them in regulation for Miami, which fell to 8-22. He was 16-for-21 from the floor, plus added 11 assists and 7 rebounds.

Somehow, it wasn't enough.

"It's a little demoralizing to play my most complete game yet and to really have a feeling that we were going to win this ballgame," Wade said. "To lose it in overtime, it hurts."

Raptors 83, Spurs 73: Jason Kapono scored 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, and visiting Toronto beat San Antonio, the Spurs' second home loss of the season. The Raptors, who enjoyed a nearly weeklong layoff, snapped a three-game losing streak.

Nets 109, Wizards 106: Richard Jefferson had 26 points, Vince Carter added 24 and Jason Kidd just missed his 95th triple-double, leading host New Jersey past Washington.

Kidd finished with 20 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds as New Jersey earned only its fourth win in the last 14 home games.

Hornets 99, Bobcats 85: David West had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and host New Orleans turned in another dominating performance.

Quietly coming into the game with the third-best record in the Western Conference, the Hornets (19-10) posted their fourth straight blowout win by quickly putting away the sleepwalking Bobcats (10-17) with alley-oop dunks, uncontested shots and energized defense.

Tyson Chandler had 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Chris Paul had 17 points and 11 assists for the Hornets.

Pistons 114, Pacers 101: Richard Hamilton had 23 points and 9 assists, and host Detroit extended its winning streak to seven. The Pistons have won 14 of 16 since an 8-5 start to the season. Indiana has lost three of four. The teams play again tonight in Indiana.

Rockets 103, Grizzlies 83: Yao Ming had 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks, Luis Scola also scored 22 points and visiting Houston won with Tracy McGrady sitting out with an injury. The victory marked the first time this season that Houston has won when one of its starters sat out with an injury. McGrady missed the game with left knee tendinitis.

Trail Blazers 109, T'wolves 98: Brandon Roy scored 22 points despite not playing the second quarter, and host Portland beat Minnesota.

Sixers 92, Kings 80: Samuel Dalembert had 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for visiting Philadelphia.

Suns 94, Clippers 88: Amare Stoudemire scored 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting and host Phoenix won for the first time this season with less than 100 points. The Suns were 0-5 when scoring under 100.

Lakers 123, Jazz 109: Kobe Bryant had 31 points and 7 assists before sitting out the fourth quarter of the Lakers' win over visiting Utah.

Nuggets 124, Warriors 120: Allen Iverson scored 39 points, including a late jumper to break a tie, and Carmelo Anthony added 30 for visiting Denver.
