Steel band Tuesday at ECC

Elgin Community College Steel Bands will present "Steel on Ice" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Blizzard Theatre in the ECC Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Conductor Steven Butters will lead the band in a variety of works that celebrate calypso, soca, reggae, ska and a healthy dose of rock and roll.

As an advocate for contemporary music, Butters has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe and has premiered several new works for solo percussion. He performs regularly with Basement Junta, Ensemble NoAmnesia, Maverick Ensemble, Pan Chicago, Tone Road Ramblers, Steel Express and Vincent Davis' Percussion Plus. He has recorded for the Opus One, Einstein and Drag City labels.

Tickets to "Steel on Ice" are $8, or $6 for students and seniors. Tickets are now available online at www.elgin.edu/arts or at the ECC Box office located in the Arts Center. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call (847) 622-0300.
