'Lane change' raises last forever

Heather Walsh admonishes the Herald in her Nov 17 letter to keep its facts straight. While Ms. Walsh is correct in her numbers, she omits one important fact -- that being that once a teacher earns the lane change, that increase is with him the rest of his career.

Imagine you could invest $8,000 in something and have it be worth $16,700 in 5 years (Assumptions: 5.5 percent average annual increase - step plus raise, and a lane increase of $3,000.)

Also, tuition reimbursement policies vary greatly form district tot district. Some do reimburse in whole or part. Her district's practice on reimbursement may not be the same as others. Not a bad investment.
