Don't complain, and be a teacher
I am always baffled when I hear some people complain about the easy life of a teacher (Raymond Craig, Dec. 1 Fence Post ) and they finish their long list of complaints with, "I wish I were a teacher."
I can never understand why these people do not simply take out a student loan, go back to school, and become teachers (as I did, at the age of 37, as a widowed parent of four kids under the age of 14). Although I owe over $60,000 in student loans, it was the best move I ever made. It is an amazing and humbling feeling to go to work each day and know that for some kids, I make a difference in their lives. Can we put a price tag on this?
Funny coincidence that the same people who think teachers are overpaid also try to find the cheapest day care for their children. What is the message they are sending to their kids? How sad.
